The people behind the boots

Hello from Rob & Susie.

We met in 2018. A couple of months later, we climbed our first Munro together. Susie was not immediately convinced this would become a hobby.

How it started

One hill led to another.

Our first walk together up a Munro was perhaps an ambitious second date. We got through it, and somewhere between that first summit and the many that followed, walking became one of the ways we spent our time together.

During the Covid lockdowns we returned to the hills in earnest. Lake District holidays became longer walks: the West Highland Way in 2023, the Great Glen Way in 2024 and Robin’s Way in 2025. We even got married during a trip to Everest Base Camp. It seemed sensible at the time.

Then, late in 2025, Susie suggested the Coast to Coast. In July 2026, we set out from St Bees with two rucksacks, three pebbles each and rather less certainty about what lay ahead than we pretended.

Why the book?

Because the best bits deserved keeping.

The Coast to Coast gave us a story much bigger than a route description. Apparently We Enjoy This tells it in our own voice, with earlier walks joining the journey along the way.

It is for anyone who has ever stood at the foot of a hill, looked at the weather and gone anyway.
